Yarra Glen JFC – 2022 Season Preview

Yarra Glen Junior Football Club are seeing a tale of contrasting fortunes ahead of season 2022, with strong participation numbers in the lower age junior bracket but low numbers in the high age groups.

The Jets will field teams in under 9’s, 11’s, 13’s as well as the under 14 and 16 girls but struggled to recruit players in the mid-to-high age range.

The pre-season training program, however, has run according to plan with high numbers in attendance, particularly with the two girl’s sides.

“Mel Cameron and Wayne Morris will be in charge of the girls teams this year, where a commitment to play from an outstanding group of girls is a really exciting prospect for them both,” said club president Darren Bennett.

“A lot of our players are keen to start playing, but I think in those older age groups, it’s hard to get kids back and playing again.

“I would definitely like to see more participation numbers to come along to our club.”

The Jets are focussed on providing an opportunity to kids and their parents who are keen to play football and have fun, with no expectations on results.

“My main aim is to get everyone to get back and have a good experience,” Bennett explained.

“If we can get that bit right and the kids and parents are enjoying themselves, then we have kicked our first goal for the year.

“Everyone is looking forward to getting started and we are particularly excited to get into an uninterrupted year, so I am thankful to everyone who has put in a solid effort thus far over the pre-season.”
