Week 4 Recap

Week four produced another great display of football and netball across the region, with the Pride Cup match held at Yarra Glen being the highlight. Here is the round recap:

FOOTBALL

Totally Work Wear Premier Division Seniors

A thrilling game took place at Upwey Recreation Reserve, with the match between Upwey Tecoma and Wandin going down to the wire in front of a packed crowd. In the end, the Tigers got up over the Bulldogs by two points. Ben Hinton, Josh Hannon and Jain Sheehan all kicked two goals each for the winners while Pat Hodgett kicked three at the other end of the ground for the Bulldogs. The final score was 12.11-83 to 11.15-81.

Beaconsfield grabbed a 166-point victory over Doveton at Holm Park to move themselves into top spot on the ladder. Matthew Johnson kicked six goals for the Eagles while Jafar Ocaa booted five. Patrick Gerdan, Nick Battle, Jamie Plumbridge, Sam Merrick and Josh Mounter starred for the Eagles to feature as the best players. The final score was 26.27-183 to 2.5-17.

Another tight match took place at Toomuc Reserve, where Narre Warren beat Pakenham by seven points on their home ground. Trent Cody and Tom Toner kicked three goals each while Jack Flannery, Tom Miller, Jesse Davies, Cory Machaya and Will Howe were named as the best players for the Magpies. The final score was 10.10-70 to 10.3-63.

Olinda Ferny Creek returned strongly from their bye round last week to record a 15-point victory over Woori Yallock at Olinda Recreation Reserve. In what was a great match, the Bloods took control in the second half and maintained a three-goal lead to eventually win by 15 points. Mitch Bonuda kicked five goals for the winners while Dale Rohrmann, Jayden Rankin, Sean Atkinson, James Belli, Tom Millwood and Kelsey Currie also starred. The final score was 12.13-85 to 9.16-70.

Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centres Division One Seniors

Mount Evelyn made it two wins in a row on their home turf, defeating Belgrave by 143 points at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve. Rob Hartfield and Kaleb Ban Beek proved to be great targets up forward with seven goals each, while Callum Urquhart, Michael Gibbons and Lachlan Fooks were the other multiple goal scorers for the Rovers. The final score was 27.17-179 to 5.6-36.

Emerald was another side to make a great return from their bye last weekend, beating Seville by 114 points at Chandler Park. Jake Pedder and Rogan Goonan kicked five goals each while Nic Jansen, Lachlan Hoye, Jarrad Donders, Rogan Goonan and Matt Livermore were also named as the standout players for the Bombers. The final score was 24.13-157 to 6.7-43.

Gembrook Cockatoo had control of the match against Healesville, defeating them by 77 points. Michael Firrito kicked four goals from 24 disposals on his return, while captain Damian Volta was a ball magnet for the Brookers with 39 possessions and 10 marks. Tyler Joosten, Aaron Firrito, Dante South, Braden Wood and Colin Bastow were the other standout performers for the winners. The final score was 15.15-105 to 4.4-28.

Monbulk got the better of Berwick Springs at Monbulk Recreation Reserve, beating them by 158 points. Taylor Joyce was the prime target in the forward line for the Hawks booting eight goals while Michael Langworthy also kicked five goals. Lochlan Beecroft, Ethan Greenall, Adam Banks, Brodie Emmett and Ash Beck were also named as the best players for the Hawks. The final score was 29.15-189 to 5.1-31.

ATC Traffic Division Two Seniors

The Yarra Valley Pride Match was a good hitout for Yarra Glen, coming away with the win on their home turf at Yarra Glen Recreation Reserve. River Pigs Captain Ben Ashton backed up his solid performance against Kinglake last week with 30 possessions and two goals to lead his side home. The other standout performers were Jayden Schille, Cameron Tait, Callum Morison, Nick Mckenzie and Sam Horsley with the final score being 11.10-76 to 7.13-55.

Kinglake gave Alexandra their first loss of the season over the weekend, beating them by 32 points at Kinglake Memorial Oval. Damian Pywell and Chris Horman kicked four goals each while Scott McAauliffe, Riley Kennedy, Mason McAllister, Tom Clarke and Joel Mcdonald were the best players for the Lakers. The final score was 14.9-93 to 9.7-61.

Warburton Millgrove scored their first win of the season on Saturday beating Broadford by 144 points at Warburton Recreation Reserve. Trent Elliott was a powerhouse up forward, booting 10 goals to lead his side home. Liam Barnard was also prolific throughout the day recording 35 possessions, 15 of which were contested, and recording three goals. Aiden Westlake, James Edmonds, Dylan Anderson, Jamie Nelson and Angus Nelson were also named as the best players for the day. The final score was 27.15-177 to 4.9-33.

Yarra Junction recorded a big win in front of their home crowd at Yarra Junction Recreation Reserve, beating Yea by 195 points. Ewan Wadsworth put in another strong performance to record more than 40 possessions for the second week in a row. This week, he finished with 42 possessions, seven inside 50’s and one goal. Sam Morton and David Johnson were the targets up forward, finishing with nine and seven goals. Luke Spaulding, Jesse Bombinski and Josh Hammen also starred for the Eagles.

Womens Division One

A great, spirited contest took place between Beaconsfield and Pakenham, with the Eagles coming out on top with a 30-point win over the Lions. Maddalyne Hession was the only multiple goal scorer for the Eagles with two while Victoria Liarakos, Lauree Metcalfe, Sarah Mccallum, Lauren Hojnacki, Brianna Coates and Jessie Deakin also starred. The final score was 6.4-40 to 1.4-10.

Mount Evelyn grabbed another win on their home ground, beating Monbulk by 71 points at Monbulk Recreation Reserve. Sophia Zappia and Jessica Dalgleish shared five goals for the Rovers while Isobel Urquhart, Matilda Kelly, Kiara Simons and Madison Foley were named as the best players. The final score was 10.11-71 to 0.0-0.

The match between Upwey Tecoma and Healesville was a great game to watch, with the Tigers finishing up as the winners with an 18-point victory. Jess Occhipinti was the only multiple goal scorer with two for the winners while Cale Mcness, Corinna White, Imogen Rennie, Jess Walton and Emma Caccetta were judged as the best players for the Tigers. The final score was 6.6-42 to 3.6-24.

Womens Division Two

Yarra Junction and Belgrave had a great hit out at Yarra Junction Recreation Reserve, defeating Belgrave by 26 points. Patricia Boxell kicked four goals to be the stand-out player of the match while Jade Mewburn, Cassandra Barlow, Emma Mills, Chloe Burton-Puts and Jade Radford were the other standout players for the Eagles. The final score was 7.7-49 to 3.5-17.

Olinda Ferny Creek have notched up three wins in a row to continue their impressive start in their inaugural season as a football team, defeating Seville/Woori Yallock by 50 points. Bloods Captain Maddy Collins and Leah Gaissl shared five goals between them while Claire Hyett, Kiah Burgess, Chelsea Wilson, Emmalee Keegan and Kylie Verbakel were best on ground. The final score was 8.9-57 to 1.1-7.

Officer grabbed their second win of the season over the weekend, defeating Thornton Eildon by nine points. Allison Wartnaby kicked three goals in the forward line for the Kangaroos while captain Meagan Davey, Tali Verhoeven, Suzanne Byne, Caitlyn Davey, Grace Emptage and Erin Howe-Jones were all featured as the best players. The final score was 5.3-33 to 2.12-24.

NETBALL

Premier A Grade

The match between Upwey Tecoma and Wandin was a close affair, with the Tigers getting up by seven points to win 55 to 48. Jess Black, Emily Priddle and Gabby Bull were the goal scorers, Isabelle Rebecca and Charlotte Davies also featured as the best players.

Beaconsfield got the win in their match against Doveton with the final score being 79 to 21. Elizabeth Murphy and Bianca Sanzaro were the goal scorers for the Eagles while Katherine Grigoriou and Danielle Cameron also starred as their best players.

Narre Warren beat the home side in Pakenham at Toomuc Reserve by 23 points to place themselves in third spot on the ladder. The final score was 58 to 35.

Olinda Ferny Creek scored a victory in their match against Woori Yallock at Olinda Recreation Reserve defeating them 63 to 45. Melissa Martinov, Jackie Cullimore and Grace Kelly were the goal shooters for the Bloods while Brianna Hipwell, Brodie Smith and Jackie Cullimore were named as the best players.

A tight match at Edwin Flack Reserve engulfed the affair between Berwick and Cranbourne, with Cranbourne getting up by three points over the home side to win 39 to 36. Alanah Hardy and Kristie Bryden scored the goals for the winners.

Division 1 A Grade

Mount Evelyn got the win over Belgrave on their home court at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve, defeating them by 39 points to win 69 to 30. Georgia Marsh and Stephanie Jones were the goal shooters for the winners while Jacqui Black was also named as a standout player.

Another close match took place at Chandler Reserve, with Seville getting up over Emerald by four points to win 57 to 53. Olivia Ray and Alisha West scored the goals for the Blues while Cleo Minnay and Erin Baker also starred.

Gembrook Cockatoo defeated Healesville by 14 points at Don Road Sporting Complex to win 46 to 32. Rebecca Christie, Chelsea Ingram and Alisha Fitzgerald were the goal shooters for the Brookers while Paige Ladner and Lauren Castricum also featured as the best players.

Monbulk got up in their match against Berwick Springs to win by 36 points at Monbulk Recreation Reserve. Nicole Macdowell and Sophie Stubbs were the goal shooters for the Hawks while Paige Whitworth and Tiana Mancerella were named as the best players.

Division 2 A Grade

Powelltown defeated Yarra Glen in the Pride Cup match which took place at Yarra Glen Recreation Reserve by four points. Amy Stanley and Jade Rogers were the goal shooters for the Demons while Demi Barber and Maddalyn Beet were named as the best players.

Alexandra grabbed their first win of the season over Kinglake at Kinglake Memorial Oval by 24 points on Saturday, with the final score showing 53 to 29. Ellie Hedger and Caitlan Haggis starred for the Rebels to be named as their best players.

Warburton Millgrove got the win over Broadford by 30 points at Warburton Recreation Reserve to maintain their spot in second position on the ladder. Bianca Daniels, Kirralee Luiyf and Taniesha Luiyf scored the goals for the Burras while Courtney Lever and Sally McIntosh were also named as the best players. The final score was 60 to 30.

Yea beat Yarra Junction by 20 points at Yarra Junction Recreation Reserve, with the final score showing 48 to 28. Amanda Finn, Nicole Wong and Shelby Lewer were the goal shooters for the Eagles while Jacinta Mcginley and Daisy Nash were named as the best players.
