Week 9 Recap

As the competition resumed after a month off, this week was all about players getting back into a routine again as we head into the second half of the season. Here’s the round recap:

FOOTBALL

Totally Work Wear Berwick & Knoxfield Premier Division Seniors

The match between Cranbourne and Pakenham was a great game to watch, with the Eagles coming from two points behind at three quarter time to record a 12-point win. Jake Carosella and Jordan Bertrand shared two goals each for the Eagles while Dillan Bass, Jake Cowburn, Bailey Buntine and Jarryd Barker were named as the best players. The final score was 7.12-54 to 6.6-42.

Olinda Ferny Creek got the better of Doveton to come away with a 49-point win at Robinson Reserve over the weekend. Nick Keegan and Heath Hocking kicked two goals each while Lachlan Taylor, Pat Rosier, Kelsey Currie, Tyler Belloni, Mitchell Bonuda and Josh Wallis were judged as best on ground for the Bloods. The final score was 10.17-77 to 3.10-28.

Narre Warren were too good for Upwey Tecoma over the weekend, with the Magpies defeating the Tigers by 53 points at Upwey Recreation Reserve. Luke Hartley booted four goals for the winners while Tom Miller and Tom Toner kicked two each. Peter Gentile, Nathan Foote and Matt Soroczynski featured as the best on ground for the Magpies, with the final score showing 12.14-86 to 5.3-33.

Beaconsfield defeated Woori Yallock at Woori Yallock Recreation Reserve by 51 points to maintain their spot in first position on the ladder. James Munro had a great outing for his second game in the Eagles senior side, finishing with 29 disposals and nine inside 50’s. Harrison Coe, Jamie Plumridge, Tylah Stokoe, Jake Cameron and Trent Stokoe were named as the best players while Cameron, Matt Johnson and Jafar Ocaa kicked two goals each. The final score was 11.10-76 to 3.7-25.

Hallam & Baywater Truck Centres Division One Seniors

Playing on their home ground at Chandler Reserve, Emerald had a great game against Belgrave to record a 107-point victory. Patrick Chin kicked five goals for the Bombers while Jordan Donadel, Jarrod Marshall, Dale Karacsonyi, Brendan Wilson and Wyatt Hansen were named as best on ground. The final score was 18.17-125 to 2.6-18.

The match between Gembrook Cockatoo and Monbulk was abandoned after a player went down with an injury in the first quarter.

In their last game at their home ground at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve for the season, Mount Evelyn made the occasion one to remember with a 13-point victory over Healesville. Callum Urquhart, Brendan Lord and Michael Gibbons had a big day out in the forward line, finishing with 12 goals between them. Daimon Kift, Jack Beamish, Matt Brierley, Lachlan Fooks and Bayley Forbes all starred as best on ground for the winners, with the final scores showing 22.18-150 to 5.7-37.

The Outer East Match of the Round proved to be a tight and tough contest with the Kangaroos upsetting the Blues on their home ground at Seville Recreation Reserve to record an eight-point win. Lachlan Ward and Anthony Bernardo kicked two goals each while Jacob Brady, Michael Dompietro and Jake Ingaliso were named as the best players. The final score was 8.3-51 to 6.7-43.

ATC Traffic Division Two Seniors

Alexandra had a big win over Broadford to move into first position on the ladder, reaffirming themselves as a premiership contender in the process. Rebels Captain Brayden Norris had a great day in front of goal with 10 majors while Jason Degabrielle finished with 41 possessions and seven clearances. Henry Olsson, Dean Galea, Pat Ferguson, Lachlan Collard and Cooper Phillips were judged as best on ground. The final score was 20.8-128 to 1.9-15.

Powelltown provided Kinglake with its first loss of the season, with the Demons defeating the Lakers by 23 points at Powelltown Recreation Reserve. Michael Fowkes and Dean Roy were strong targets up forward once again sharing 10 goals between them while Jason Walker, Jacke Garthwaite, Nathan Moody, Ben Wratten and Mitch Mclaughlin were named as the best on ground for the winners. The final score was 14.6-90 to 10.7.-67.

Warburton Millgrove got their second win of the season over the weekend, defeating Yarra Junction by 11 points at Yarra Junction Recreation Reserve. Shaun Marusic and Nelson Alridge kicked two goals each for the winners while Matt Wright, Liam Barnard, Tim McKail and Trent Elliott were named as the best players for the winners. The final score was 9.11-65 to 8.6-54.

Playing as home team at Yea Recreation Reserve, Yarra Glen grabbed a win on the road against Yea by 54 points. Led by their captain Ben Ashton who amassed 28 possessions, the River Pigs overcame muddy ground conditions to maintain their spot in fourth on the ladder. Daniel Hurley, Callum Morison and Sam Horsley shared seven goals between them while Lachlan Telford, Richard Wyles, Billy Gardner and Lachlan Stevenson also featured as the best players on the ground. The final score was 10.12-72 to 2.6-18.

Women’s Division One

Mount Evelyn picked up from where they left off in their games against Monbulk on Friday night, defeating the Hawks by 70 points. The visitors failed to score in the match at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve. Rovers captain Isobel Urquhart was a standout for the winners, booting four majors in front of goal while Casey Mcconchie had three. The other best players to feature were Hayley Watkins, Mackenzie Adams, Georgia Ploesgsma and Olivia Davis.

A close, competitive contest took place at Upwey Recreation Reserve over the weekend with Upwey Tecoma beating Pakenham to maintain their spot in third on the ladder. Both sides were within single digits of each other for the entirety of the match, before the Tigers kicked the only goal of the final quarter, running out as 10-point winners. Jess Occhipinti and Lucy Ventham kicked two goals each for their respective sides. Tigers captain Kiana Oates, Corinna White, Ella Collard, Emma Caccetta, Leah Borg and Emma Koster were all judged as best on ground for the winners. The final score was 5.3-33 to 3.5-23.

Another tight contest took place at Don Road Sports Complex, with Beaconsfield upsetting the home side Healesville for a narrow victory by two points. Katie Angelis was the only goal scorer for the Eagles with two while Alex Woods and Ruby O’Dwyer grabbed on each for the Bloods. Charlotte Jagusch, Victoria Liarakos, Sarah Mccallum, Maddison Magri and Lauren Hojnacki were the best for the winners. The final score was 2.3-15 to 2.1-13.

Women’s Division Two

Yarra Junction continued their dominating form in division two with a 126-point victory over a scoreless Seville Woori Yallock at Yarra Junction Recreation Reserve. Captain Patsy Boxell played an outstanding game, kicking eight goals while Jade Mewburn and Cassie Barlow shared seven goals between them. Ann Ito, Georgia Strahan, Sienna Mills, Siobhan Zelno and Ebony Lee were judged best on ground for the Eagles.

A low scoring, but competitive game took place at Officer Recreation Reserve over the weekend, with Belgrave getting the win over the home side by just one point. Danielle Weisgerber and Tali Verhoeven scored one goal each for their sides. Both sides maintain their positions on the ladder, with Officer in second and Belgrave in fourth. The final score was 1.4-10 to 1.3-9.

NETBALL

Premier A Grade

A tight, entertaining affair took place at Woori Yallock Recreation Reserve, with the match between Woori Yallock and Beaconsfield resulting in a one-point victory to the home side. Mia Suomirski, Sarah Hogan and Alana Mcgurgan were the goal scorers for the winners. The final score was 51 to 50.

Olinda Ferny Creek beat Doveton by 21 points at Robinson Reserve to continue their unbeaten start to the season in Premier A Grade. Elly Stewart and Jackie Cullimore were the goal shooters for the Bloods while Brianna Hipwell and Madison Taylor were the best players. The final score was 74 to 53.

Narre Warren beat Upwey Tecoma by 29 points at Upwey Recreation Reserve over the weekend, with the final score showing 58 to 29. Jemma Osborne, Erin Bell and Gabrielle Dwyer scored the goals for the Magpies while Caitlin Stephens and Taylah Jencke were named as the best players.

Cranbourne got the better of Pakenham at Livingston Reserve over the weekend, with the Eagles defeating the Lions by 16 points. Alanah Hardy and Kristie Bryden were the goal scorers while Tara Cecil and Tiana Butler were named as the best players. The final score was 46 to 30.

Another great match took place at Edwin Flack Reserve, with Berwick getting up over Wandin by 3 points to maintain their spot in fifth on the ladder. Emma Clarke, Emily Pupuke and Chloe Phillips scored the goals for the Wickers while Hayley Stewart and Melissa Webster were named as the best players. The final score was 52 to 49.

Division 1 A Grade

Gembrook Cockatoo got the win over Monbulk by 9 points at Heatherbrae Recreation Reserve, with the final score showing 48 to 39. Chelsea Ingram, Alisha Fitzgerald and Rebecca Christie were the goal scorers while Lauren Castricum and Paige Ladner were named as the best players.

Emerald continued their great start to the season with a 52-point victory over Belgrave at Chandler Reserve. Tayla Shannon featured strongly as one of the goal shooters for the Bombers, while Taylah Grasso was also named as a standout player. The final score was 92 to 40.

Mount Evelyn secured the win over Healesville at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve by 21 points, with the final score showing 55 to 34. Stephanie Jones, Georgia Marsh and Kaila Swindell were the goal shooters for the Rovers while Cassidy Quilty and Montana Wallis were named as the best players.

The top of the table clash was a great contest, with ROC defeating Seville by 10 points at Seville Recreation Reserve. Keeley Burgmann and Dee Dee Deng scored the goals for the Kangaroos while Maddison Chamberlain was also named as a standout player.

Division 2 A Grade

Playing as the away team on their home court, Yea defeated Yarra Glen by 13 points at Yea Recreation Reserve. Tigers sharpshooter Nikki Watts was a standout again, scoring 31 points while Tayissa Coppinger and Alicia McLeod were named as standout players. The final score was 43 to 28.

Broadford scored their fifth win of the season over Alexandra at Harley Hammond Reserve. Ally Black, Toni Bootland and Jordyn Donovan scored the goals for the Kangaroos, with the final score showing 45 to 36.

Warburton Millgrove grabbed another win for their season over Yarra Junction, defeating them by 8 points at Yarra Junction Recreation Reserve. Kirralee Luiyf and Bianca Daniels played strongly again as the goal scorers for the Burras. The final score was 41 to 33.
