Men’s Football
The Tigers finished 7th in 2022 with 4 Wins and 12 losses, however they showed some great signs across the season ranking second for hitouts to advantage at 11 per game and third for marks with 77 per game.
Daniel Waters and Carmine Porcaro (team of the year) were prolific up forward kicking 37 (16 games) and 30 (13 games) respectively.
If the Upwey Tecoma engine room can put their hitout-to-advantage dominance to more use, they could be due for some higher scores and a handful more wins in 2023.
This could well be helped by the recruitment of classy midfielder Declan Forbes, who has been part of two Senior Premiership across his time at Knox and South Belgrave. Liam O’Connor is another key signing, bringing leadership experience from both St John’s and Lang Lang. He was also named CHB in Team of the Decade at St John’s.
Another positive is that there is plenty of talent to choose from with the Reserves and U19’s making the Grand Final last year.
One would expect the Tigers to be on the improve this season; how high they will climb is something we will find out.
Women’s Football
Upwey Tecoma are coming into the 2023 season as the reigning Premiers! They were insanely dominant in 2022, averaging about 76 points per game and conceding under 10 points per game.
They had three goal scorers over 20, headlined by Jess Occhipinti and Alexandria Bantock with 38 and 37 respectively.
Occhipinti and Bantock were named in Team of the Year, along with Kiana Oates and Emma Caccetta, all of whom had phenomenal seasons.
If Upwey Tecoma can maintain their tight defence and keep scoring goals at will, they will be right in contention to go back-to-back. Other strong teams such as Healesville and Olinda Ferny Creek will be hungry to stop them.
Netball
The 2023 season arriving is exciting for Upwey Tecoma as their 2022 campaign wasn’t a reasonable indication of how good they are. Last year they were cruelled by injuries and unavailability. They look to climb the ladder as they have their starting WA back and last season recruited a GS following their tall GS moving interstate.
Jess Black (337) Molly Argoon (186) and Rachel Grawich (153) were strong under the net.
Charlotte Davies was terrific in Goal Defence and Holly Nieuwenhuizen enjoyed a strong season.
Hopefully for Upwey Tecoma, they can tighten up team defence, which should be helped by having a more stable team.
How high they can climb this season, will be an intriguing watch, as they look set for a much better 2023 campaign.
