The 2019 Eastern Region Women’s season has brought quite different results for the two teams from Upwey Tecoma.
Firstly, their Division One side are in a pretty good position, sitting third on the ladder, but only percentage separates them and fourth placed East Ringwood. They started the season off very strongly, with comfortable wins against Upper Ferntree Gully, Heathmont and Knox. They then wobbled, losing the next two, before bouncing back with a big win over Norwood after having the bye.
One thing you do notice about their results is that the margins are quite big, regardless of who runs away as the victor. Up until last weekend, their average winning margin so far this season has been 52.5 points, while their average losing margin has been 63.5 points.
So far this season, Upwey Tecoma’s first quarters have been a predicting factor in the way the matches have ended up. If at quarter time they are leading they usually end up winning the encounter. They were behind at quarter time in both of their losses. They have also kept their opponents scoreless in the first quarters on three occasions.
Things are not going as well for the Outer East Division team. They are currently second last on the ladder with only one win on the board. In saying that, they are only one win behind fourth placed Belgrave so all is not lost.
Scoring has been a bit issue for them all season. They have struggled to put more than three goals on the board almost every game this season. In their win against Belgrave however, they were able to put nine on the board, so the scoring potential is there, it just needs to register on the scoreboard.
Looking ahead, here is how the rest of the season looks for the two teams:
