Strong start showing encouraging signs for ROC

ROC Netball Club are shaping up for a great year ahead on the court, with all four of their sides getting two wins on the board to start the season.

In their matches against Berwick Springs over the weekend, the A, B, C and D grade teams all won by 51, 65, 38 and 41 points.

Club President Laura Quinn was pleased with the efforts of her players and the club so far, hoping that the strong start will go a long way toward shaping the season for the Kangaroos.

“It’s the perfect start for us,” Quinn said.

“We are pleased with how we have started off the season and hopefully this will continue.”

Stressing that the teams success has been the result of hard work and effort which has gone into the club, Quinn did however mention one player who was a standout from the A grade side over the weekend, citing an improved game plan for the young netballer.

“Keeley Burgmann has stepped up despite the fact she is so young,” Quinn explained.

“She is playing a very mature netball game.”

The long 18-month break in competitive sport now has the Officer netball community out and enjoying their sport again.

Good spectator numbers have graced the courts in support of the Kangaroos since the season began, with supporters enjoying the fact they are able to come along and watch their favourite sports again.

As president, Quinn is pleased with the position which her club is in at the moment, knowing there are four competitive sides who are able to take on their opposition and put early wins on the board.

However, she is also aware that the Kangaroos must not get comfortable with the way things have been going.

“We need to continue to improve and not get complacent by making sure we are hitting our goals,” she said.

“The initial aim this season for us as club is for all four of our sides to qualify for finals and we’ll see what happens on the other side of that.”

ROC will take on Mount Evelyn this weekend at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve as they attempt to make it three in a row across all their teams.
