A strong pre-season and solid recruiting has placed the Warburton Millgrove Football Netball Club in a great position as they begin to embark on its 2021 season.
The season that was cancelled in 2020 has done little to deter the enthusiasm of the Burras as they look to bounce back from a somewhat disappointing year in 2019.
Speaking ahead of Round 1 next weekend, Club President Rod Barnard was upbeat about the possibilities of what the new season will produce.
“Everyone around the club is excited and ready to go as we’re about the commence the season next weekend,” Barnard said.
“Given the circumstances around what happened last year, I think everyone around the club is feeling really positive and looking forward to just being able to play community sport again.”
The football side of the club has recruited well over the past six months with Dylan Anderson, Tom Stokes, James Iacono and Brady Mitchell signing with the Burras while retaining influential players from the likes of Tim McKail, Jack Lee, Tom Marr and Nelson Aldridge.
In another sign that indicates a strong pre-season, they beat the likes of Brunswick, Chirnside Park and Bonnie Doon in practice matches over the last month.
While Warburton Millgrove will field seniors and reserves teams, they will not host an Under 19’s and women’s team in 2021.
The club is also looking to a great year in their netball teams, with strong numbers making up the side.
Joining the netball side is Morgan Wyatt while the club has retained the services of Mel Hancock, Alex Woods, Bianca Daniels, Nat Petrucev, Selina Fotia and Kirralee Luiyf.
“With many players pledging their commitment to our club, we are looking forward to a great year with our netball sides and hope they are able to enjoy some success along the way,” Barnard said.
The Warburton Millgrove Football Netball Club will commence its 2021 season on Saturday 17th April with a Round 1 match against Powelltown at Powelltown Recreation Reserve.
