As their 2021 campaign kicks off at Robinson Reserve today, Doveton are confident of having another great year ahead.
Moving up into premier division, senior coach Daniel Charles is confident in his sides ability to be competitive this season.
“I know what my team is like and they will compete,” Charles said.
“Putting in the effort to compete on a weekly basis won’t be an issue for us.”
The Doves have experienced really good pre-season training sessions, where players have been enthusiastic in their attitude and worked hard.
The club lost seven players from the side that took them to the premiership in 2019 with notable departures including Matthew Boyd and Deakyn Smith who have taken up opportunities in the AFL.
They have, however, managed to recruit well over the off-season with new additions to the team including Austin Deneys coming across from Forest Hill, Mark Seedsman from Rowville and Jarrod Smith returning from Noble Park.
Despite being unable to field an Under 19’s team this year, the club does have the benefit of being able to produce two strong and competitive teams as they aim for another great year.
The netball squads are also looking to have a great year, with all players showing signs of passion, attending training regularly and also demonstrating that they are willing to put the effort in.
Charles’ goals in 2021 are simple, with an endeavour to compete every week a clear objective and is also excited to finally resume competitive sport again.
“I’m really happy that the league has managed to get the season going again,” Charles explained.
“It’s disappointing that we couldn’t get an Under 19’s side going, but we have a lot of players in that age bracket who are capable of playing senior football at Doveton and all that does is give them an opportunity to push into the seniors.
“It’s great that the boys can run around and get the season going again, but this will help with peoples mental health aswell which is important.”
The Doveton Football Netball Club will kick off their season this afternoon with its round one match against Wandin at Robinson Reserve.
