Round 5 Preview – Women’s Football

With mixed results across both division one and two to start the season, all women’s football teams are putting in a remarkable effort in their matches which attracts exciting football for their respective crowds.

Round 5 preview:

Division One

Mount Evelyn v Pakenham

Mount Evelyn will come into the match having enjoyed an awesome start to their season, winning all four of their games to sit on top of the ladder. Led by their captain Isobel Urquhart, the Rovers have made their mark on the competition to set themselves up as early flag favourites. However, they will come up against a strong Pakenham outfit this week who have shown plenty of signs to indicate they are a competitive force in 2021. Lions captain Chloe Nagel and her squad have proven to be tough rivals against their opposition to keep themselves in their games thus far. The Rovers will match up against the Lions on Saturday 15 May at 4:45pm on their home ground at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve.

Upwey Tecoma v Monbulk

Upwey Tecoma have enjoyed a good start to their season after four matches to be sitting in fourth on the ladder with two wins. Defeating Healesville by 18 points at Upwey Recreation Reserve last weekend, they will now line up against Monbulk back at their home ground as they aim to record their third win for the season. Captain Kiana Oates is leading a great outfit who are well on their way to contesting the finals later in the year. Monbulk’s winless start to the season will be used as a motivator for them this weekend, who are led by their skipper Jessica Moseley. The Tigers will take on the Hawks on Saturday 15 May at 4:45pm at Upwey Recreation Reserve.

Beaconsfield v Healesville

Beaconsfield are another side to have enjoyed a great start to the season, winning three of their four matches to be in second position on the ladder. This weekend, they will play against Healesville on their home ground at Holm Park Reserve in Beaconsfield. Led by Charlie Jagusch, the girls have been performing well as a team to mark themselves as one of the leading contenders at this stage of the season. Going down in a great match against Upwey Tecoma last weekend, Healesville will be out to make amends against their opposition in order to maintain their top three position on the ladder, led by their captain Ali Bryan. The Eagles will play the Bloods on Sunday 16 May at 3pm at Holm Park Reserve.

Division Two

Officer v Belgrave

Grabbing a win in their match against Thornton Eildon last weekend, Officer are sitting in second spot on the division two ladder. The Kangaroos will now take on Belgrave on their home ground at Officer Recreation Reserve as they look to further cement themselves as a contender for the finals. Captain Maegan Davey has been leading a competitive outfit in 2021, with all her teammates invested in delivering some success to the Officer club rooms by seasons end. Also proving to be competitive and sitting in third on the ladder, Belgrave will provide some tough competition for the home side, with the match firming to be a great affair. The Kangaroos will host the Magpies on Saturday 15 May at 10am at Officer Recreation Reserve.

Yarra Junction v Olinda Ferny Creek

Yarra Junction are sitting undefeated on top of the ladder to start their season and will take on Olinda Ferny Creek this weekend who have had a strong start to their inaugural season as a team. Eagles captain Jamee Cousins is leading a strong outfit of footballers in 2021, who are all committed to the task of striving for success. Having won two games to start the season under the guidance of courageous captain Maddy Collins, the Bloods are proving themselves to be a contender for finals later in the year, should they keep the momentum going. The Eagles will play the Bloods on Saturday 15 May at 10:20am at Yarra Junction Recreation Reserve.

Seville/Woori Yallock v Thornton Eildon

Despite the fact they are yet to win a game in 2021, the joint Seville/Woori Yallock women’s team are making sure they are putting in a great effort in all their matches. Led by their passionate coach Geordie Scott and captain Nicole Kimpton, the team are continuously working on ways to improve as they aim for their first win of the season this weekend. Thornton Eildon, under the leadership of Emily Kerr, have won one game in 2021 and will be looking to bounce back after inaccurate kicking in front of goal cost them badly in their nine-point defeat to Officer last weekend. The Seville/Woori Yallock women’s team will take on Thornton Eildon on Saturday 15 May at 4:45pm at Woori Yallock Recreation Reserve.
