Round 3 Recap

With the season well and truly underway, football and netball clubs across the region are now starting to settle in and find their rhythm as they continue to mount their attack on the 2021 season. Here’s the recap for round three:

FOOTBALL

Totally Work Wear Premier Division Seniors

The Outer East match of the round produced a great game at the newly refurbished Wandin North Recreation Reserve, with Wandin and Woori Yallock fighting hard at the contest. Eventually, the away side ran out 38-point winners with the final scores showing 18.21-129 to 13.13-91. Josh Neal was a sharpshooter in front of goal with six majors while Zach Monkhorst was also prolific with five majors.

The match between Beaconsfield and Cranbourne at Holm Park was a gripping contest with both sides fiercely locked together throughout the match. The end result was a three-point victory to Beaconsfield with the final score showing 12.8-80 to 12-7-77. Marc Holt was a shining light for Cranbourne, booting six goals in a losing side while Jafar Ocaa and Nick Battle each kicked three goals for Beaconsfield.

The match at Toomuc Reserve saw Pakenham play their first match of the season, producing a 42-point victory in front of their home crowd against Upwey Tecoma. The best players to feature for the Lions were Jake Thompson, Matt De Bruin, Jackson Bramich, Jeconiah Peni, James Harrison and Dermott Yawney. The final score was 7.22-64 to 2.10-22.

The Saturday night game at Kalora Park saw Narre Warren and Doveton face off against each other for the first time since moving into the Outer East competition, with the Magpies producing a 96-point victory over the Doves. Captain Trent Cody starred up forward with six goals while Lachlan Benson, Rhys Dempster, Matt Soroczynski, Tom Miller and Brad Scalzo featured as the Magpies best.

Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centres Division One Seniors

Seville bounced back strongly from a narrow loss to Mount Evelyn with a 158-point victory over Belgrave on their home turf at Seville Recreation Reserve. Leigh Williams had a big day out for the Blues, kicking 13 goals while Nathan O’Keefe provided good back-up support with five majors. Jye Sciortino, James Cerere, Justin Myers and Jai Melchiorre also featured as the best players for the winners. The final score was 25.12-162 to 2.2-14.

Mount Evelyn and Officer both put in great performances at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve, with the Rovers producing a 29-point victory over the Kangaroos. Michael Gibbons, Daimon Kift and Robert Hartfield shared seven goals between them while Jackson Fellows, Jack Beamish, Ryan Fooks and Luke Inaps also featured as the best players. The final scores were 15.17-107 to 11.12-78.

Monbulk made it two from two over the weekend, coming back from a bye last week to produce a 53-point victory over Healesville at Monbulk Recreation Reserve. Taylor Joyce was a star up forward with six goals while Tom Taylor, Lochlan Beecroft, Joel Wensley, Josh Spencer and Ethan Greenall featured as the best players for the Hawks. The final score was 8.16-64 to 1.5-11.

Playing on the Heatherbrae Recreation Reserve in Officer while their facility is undergoing redevelopment works, Gembrook Cockatoo had a good match against Berwick Springs before taking control in the final quarter to record a 28-point victory. Captain Damian Volta led from the front with 31 possessions while Myles Wareham was the leading goalkicker for the Brookers with three majors. The final score was 14.20-104 to 12.4-76.

ATC Traffic Division Two Seniors

Kinglake have continued their superb start to the season with a 33-point victory over Yarra Glen at Kinglake Recreation Reserve to sit equal first with Alexandra on top of the Division Two ladder. Damian Pywell booted four goals for the Lakers while the other best players to feature included Mason Mcallister, Matt Langford, Tom Clarke, Lesley Adams, Glenn Robertson and Jed Tyrell. The final score was 17.12-114 to 11.15-81.

A great match took place at the Alexandra Showgrounds Reserve over the weekend, with Alexandra taking a 10-point victory over Warburton Millgrove. Ted Watkin booted five goals for the winners while Jordan Laurie-Rhodes, James Box, Harrison Kelly, Ryley Norris and Angus Smith were named as the best players. The final score was 11.8-74 to 8.16-64.

Powelltown bounced back strongly after a loss last week, recording a 65-point victory over Yea at Powelltown Recreation Reserve. Garry Sheppard, Dean Roy and Michael Fowkes shared 14 goals between them while Matt Mcarthur, Nathan Moody, Rhys Johnson and Russell Cowan also starred for the Demons across the day. The final score was 22.22-154 to 14.5-89.

Yarra Junction had a great day against Broadford, securing a 79-point victory at Harley Hammond Reserve to put themselves into third position on the ladder. Sam Morton and Luke Spaulding kicked five goals each while Ewan Wadsworth, David Johnson, William Carlyle and Rhys Wade were the best players for the Eagles. The final score was 20.11.131 to 7.10-52.

Womens Division One

Healesville enjoyed a good hit out against Monbulk, recording a 37-point victory at Don Road Sporting Complex. Jaimee Petersen and Emerson Woods kicked two goals each while Amy Frazzetto, Rebecca Collins, Danielle Carrucan, Alexandra Bryan and Ashleigh Coleman were featured as the best players. The final score was 6.1-37 to 0.0-0.

The match at Toomuc Reserve saw a good game for Pakenham and Upwey Tecoma, with the Tigers recording a victory against the Lions as the away team. Alexandria Bantock and Jessica Occhipinti shared five goals between them while Kiana Oates, Emma Caccetta, Corrina White and Daniela Gisler were the best players for the Tigers. The final score was 6.4-40 to 2.3-15.

Mount Evelyn and Beaconsfield had a nice hit out at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve, with the Rovers recording a 34-point victory against the Eagles. The goals were shared between Jessica Smith, Olivia Davis, Georgia Ploegsma and Rachel Theobald while Sophia Zappia, Isobel Urquhart, Isabella Rennick and Matilda Kelly also starred for the Rovers. The final score was 5.11-41 to 1.1-7.

Womens Division Two

Thornton Eildon recorded their first win for the season in a close and entertaining match against Olinda Ferny Creek at Olinda Recreation Reserve. Sophie Penney, Somaly Herridge, Maddie Collins and Ruby Gilson were the goal kickers for both sides on the day while Nerissa Carter, Natasha Hay and Lucy Mcrae were the other best players to feature for the Shinboners.  The final score was 2.6-18 to 2.2-14.

Belgrave and Seville/Woori Yallock enjoyed a great match at Seville Recreation Reserve, with the Magpies getting a 25-point win. Melinda Cottrell, Blaney Murphy and Madison Walters were the goal kickers for the winners. The final score was 6.8-44 to 3.1-19.

NETBALL

Premier A Grade

Narre Warren and Doveton fought a tough match at Kalora Park over the weekend, with the Magpies getting the win over the Doves 83 to 21. Erin Bell, Jemma Osborne and Gabrielle Dwyer were the best goal shooters for the Magpies with 44, 33 and 6 points.

The match between Beaconsfield and Cranbourne was a good one with Beaconsfield getting the win on their home court at Holm Park. Elizabeth Murphy, Bianca Sanzaro and Emily Kerr were the goal shooters for Beaconsfield while Ashleigh Gill and Zoe Mason also featured as the best players.

Pakenham and Upwey Tecoma fought a close match at Toomuc Reserve, with the Tigers beating the Lions 39 to 33. Monique Nagle, Jessica Black and Gabriella Bull were the goal shooters for the winners while Charlotte Davis and Jamie O’Hare were other players to be judged best on court.

Olinda Ferny Creek beat Berwick at Olinda Recreation Reserve with the final score showing 50 to 33. Grace Kelly, Elly Stewart and Jackie Cullimore shared the goals between them for the Bloods while Holly Taubert and Brodie Smith were also named best on court for the winners.

Featuring as part of the Outer East match of the day, Wandin got the win over Woori Yallock beating them 62 to 44. Abigail Gedge and Laura Wilson were the goal shooters for the Bulldogs while the other best players to feature were Madison Rouget and Ruby Tidd.

Division 1 A Grade

Seville got the win over Belgrave at Seville Recreation Reserve with the final score showing 77 to 12. Olivia Ray, Alisha West and Carly McDonnell were the goal shooters for the Blues while Alexis West and Jo Owen were nominated as the best players.

Mount Evelyn and ROC fought a good match at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve, but the visitors had the upper hand at the end, winning 52 to 30. Keeley Burgmann, Dee Dee Deng, Samantha Neil and Ellie Coutts all shared the goals between them while Montana Wallis, Georgia Marsh and Kaila Swindell were also nominated as the best players.

Healesville and Monbulk fought a good match at Don Road Sporting Complex, however, the Hawks took the win to move themselves into fourth on the ladder. The goals were shared between Tainee Adams, Sophie Stubbs and Nicole Macdowell.

Gembrook Cockatoos and Berwick Springs endured a good match throughout the afternoon, with the final score showing 40 to 19.

Division 2 A Grade

Powelltown and Yea had a good match at Powelltown Recreation Reserve, with the Tigers coming away with the win and the final scores were 52 to 18. Nikki Watts, Abby Cooke and Rachael Hickey scored the goals for the winners while Alicia Mcleod also featured as one of the best players.

Yarra Glen and Kinglake also fought well over the weekend, with the Rivers Pigs coming away with the win on their home court. Georgia Taylor, Ellen Brown and Lara Wandin-Collins scored the goals for winners while Bree Pascoe, Gemma Ryan and Brenda Hutton featured as the best players.

Alexandra and Warburton Millgrove had a good hit out at Alexandra Showgrounds, however, the Burras took the victory against the home side. Bianca Daniels, Kirralee Luiuf and Jordana Butchers were the goal shooters for the winners while Ashlee Guerra and Selina Fotia also featured as the best players.

Broadford and Yarra Junction had a close match at Broadford Recreation Reserve, with the Kangaroos beating the Eagles 47 to 38. Ally Black, Ebony Heers and Jacqueline Warrinder were named as best on court for the winners.
