The Powelltown Football Netball Club celebrated some significant milestones over the weekend, with popular clubmen Steven Sanders and Kane Dunne playing their 200th and 150th games for the Demons over the weekend.
The club celebrated the milestones in style, with a 65-point victory in the seniors and a 34-point victory for the reserves over Yea at Powelltown Recreation Reserve.
They each contributed well over the weekend, with their hard attack on the football helping to get their sides across the line.
Sanders first began his involvement with the Demons in 2008, when he came across from Wesburn Junior Football Club as a 16-year-old to play in the under 18’s squad, often doubling up in seniors games when required.
For the past 11 years, he has played in both seniors and reserves games and despite playing in the seniors on Saturday, has been named as captain for the reserves team.
Highlights of his time at Powelltown include playing in the 2017 & 2019 preliminary finals and holding a position on the clubs committee for many years.
Dunne played junior football at Yarra Junction, but switched over to the Demons for his senior career, his first game for the club coming in 2003.
A well renowned backman, he won the Reserves Best & Fairest award in 2005 and went on to captain the reserves on several occasions, with the latest being in the 2018 & 2019 seasons.
Dunne was a warrior during some tough times during his early days for the club, particularly in 2007, often doubling up in the seniors when the Demons were on the receiving end of some big losses.
Some of the best moments from which he has endured during his time at the Demons are playing alongside Peter McConachy in his 550th game, running out with fellow teammate and friend Bobby Walker and playing in three finals matches.
Sanders and Dunne have displayed an enormous amount of commitment and support throughout their journey at the Demons, which has now held them in high regard at the club.
The Powelltown Football Netball Club proudly acknowledges their contribution over many years, and would like to congratulate them on their 200th and 150th games over the weekend.
