Men’s Football
Pakenham will be itching to get out on the field in 2023 as they narrowly missed out on playing finals in 2022.
They won eight games and lost eight, leaving them to finish 6th.
They were an extremely competitive side however, defeating Olinda Ferny Creek (4th) in Round 3 and Woori Yallock (runners up) in Round 17.
What ultimately cost them a finals berth was losing to Monbulk twice (5th), including in the final round. One win from these two games would have had them playing finals.
There wasn’t a lot that Pakenham did wrong, as they beat the three teams that finished below them, twice.
Pakenham were ranked second for groundball gets with 129.4 and fourth for intercept marks (16.6) and marks inside 50 (10.6).
The three Tyrell brothers are a loss for Pakenham and they will look to replace them with other local talent. Pakenham are certainly in the thick of the finals mix in 2023 and if players like Jordan Stewart (Pakenham BnF + Premier Div Team of the Year) and Zac Stewart (13 votes in Premier Div Bnf + Team of the Year) can replicate their season, that will go along way to Pakenham making and competing well, in finals.
Women’s Football
A finish of fourth on the ladder for Pakenham, capped off a solid season, following 9 Wins and 7 Losses. They averaged 41 points per game and conceded 45 points per game.
They made the Conference 1 Semi Final where they went down to Olinda Ferny Creek.
Fourth on the ladder was a fair representation of their season as they lost to the teams higher than them and defeated the teams lower than them.
One of the major highlights of their season was belting fellow Conference 1 team Yarra Junction 70-25, as well as confidence boosting wins against Seville and Thornton Eildon.
Bianca Moody and Donna Monckton were strong up forward and booted 16 and 11 goals respectively. Courtney Stephens was a star for Pakenham in 2022 winning the League B&F, and Melina Eppel and Abbey Tognazzini all had stellar seasons as well.
Pakenham have enough talent across the board and will be looking to go one step further in 2023.
