Beaconsfield complete the double over their arch rivals, Division One nail biters and Yarra Glen keep on winning. It’s the Netball Review.

Woori Yallock put in a spirited effort against the top of the table Olinda Ferny Creek on Saturday, going down by 25 goals to the undefeated Bloods at home, 47-72.

Tiger’s goal scoring duo Mia Sudomirski (21) and Madeline Hargrave (26) combined for all of Woori Yallock’s goals, whilst Alice Paget and Georgia Martin were ultra impressive for the girls in Red and White. Peri Stewart shot 57 goals to creep ever closer to the 1,000 goal barrier.

Wandin almost pulled off another top five coup going down by just three goals to top three fancy Cranbourne, 41-44. Tara Cecil was best on court for the Eagles as Tahlia Coates shot 34 goals for the visitors. Cassidy Iedema once again shot well for the Dogs, finishing with 30 goals whilst Cleo Minney was their best.

Meanwhile Narre Warren firmed as a finals aspirant with a big 75-26 win over Healesville. Alexandra Bryan was the Bloods best as Tamika De Nardis (32), Jemma Osborne (26) and Chelsea Tonna (17) combined in goals.

Beaconsfield put in a four quarter performance to maintain their place on the ladder, not allowing Berwick even the smallest sniff of an upset victory. The final margin finished as 21-64, but the game was killed in the second and third quarters as the Eagles scored 42 goals to just nine in those two periods.

Danielle Roberts finished with 34 goals, Tanya Mijovic shot 20 whilst Rylee Nelson and Ash Gill controlled the mid court for the girls from Holm Park. Emma Clarke was the Wicker’s best, as she has been all season, with 12 goals in a losing battle.

Pakenham Lions pinched a come from behind win against Belgrave on the weekend, winning the last quarter 12 goals to eight to finish one goal victors. The win keeps the Lions in fourth place, just percentage behind third placed Monbulk.

Belgrave grabbed the ascendancy in the second quarter with a 15 goal to 10 quarter and looked set for victory when they held a three goal lead at the final change. But a Kyra Esler and Mia Palmer inspired Lions finished with a wet sail grabbing a crucial four points. Esler shot eight goals in the final quarter to finish with 30, whilst Palmer had four in the last term to double her match tally.

In the other game played on the weekend Warburton Millgrove kept their finals hopes alive with a massive five goal win over Monbulk away from home. The Burras finished 47-42 winners despite the Hawks impressive goal circle action. Sophie Stubbs continued her good form in Goal Attack and was named in the Monbulk best players once again, whilst Steph Puopolo shot 38 goals.

Half time saw the scores pegged at 21-20 in the Hawks favour before a massive 16 – 10 third term saw the Burras burst into the lead, one they were able to cling onto. Bianca Daniels led from the front with another 20 goals in an impressive season, whilst Kirralee Liuyf shot 27 goals in a best on court performance. Ashlee Guerra and Selina Fotia also performed strongly in the mid court.

Warburton Millgrove are now fifth ahead of Doveton on percentage, however the Doves are yet to play in round 13 due to the split round.

 

In Division Two Yea got over their shock loss to Yarra Glen with a massive 64 goal win over Gembrook-Cockatoo 80-16. Nikki Watts was best on court with 25 goals from Goal Attack whilst goal machine Melissa Martinov finished up with 55 goals to take her closer to the 500 goal mark for 2019.

Seville stayed just one game behind the ladder leading Tigers with a 48 goal win over Alexandra at Rebel Park.

The game blew out after half time as the Blues shot 33 goals to five, with Cailey Nolan (26 goals) and Jackie Cullimore (37) the main culprits in Blue for the Afternoon.

Elsewhere Kinglake had a 30 goal win over Powelltown, netting 62 goals in an impressive performance. Bille Cvijetic climbed over the 300 goal mark with 50 whilst Alice Waack, Bridget Waack and Caitlin Ryan all played well for the third placed Lakers.

Yarra Glen remain just one game behind the Lakers though after they had an eight goal win over Yarra Junction 57-49. Yarra Glen led at every change with a 16 goal to 11 third quarter the killer blow. Chloe Gray shot 29 goals in a best on court performance whilst Kali Fraser and Bree Pascoe also played well.

The Eagles will now be hoping that Alexandra continue to drop games so that they remain a chance for finals, whilst Yarra Glen are all but locked in for September action.
