In 2009 the Kinglake community was devastated by the Black Saturday bushfires and the Kinglake Football Netball Club became an important central hub for many community members during their recovery.
Witnessing the destruction of small towns like Kinglake over the past few months has brought back many memories for the Kinglake community, not just the devastation caused in our community but also the support offered to our community by other small towns during that time. This time our community members want to give that support back.
We have been informed that the Buchan community endured great loss and like Kinglake the local Football Netball Club has been playing an important role in supporting its community, this has included housing residents and supplying meals especially in the immediate aftermath, while roads were closed.
On Australia Day both the Kinglake Football Netball Club and the Kinglake Cricket Club held a Big Bash cricket match that raised $2,500. From those funds the Kinglake Football Netball Club donated 50% to the Buchan Football Netball Club and the Cricket Club will be donating the remaining 50% to a small Cricket Club in need around the Gippsland area.
Now we want to go bigger and generate greater support for the Buchan Football Netball Club and its community members.
The Kinglake Football Netball Club has arranged with the Buchan Football Netball Club to play a football match and a netball match at the Buchan Recreation Reserve on Saturday March 14th.
The Kinglake Football Netball Club will be arranging all food, drink and entertainment for the day with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Buchan Football Netball Club, and we will be supplying further supplies that the Buchan club can use through the season ahead.
We have arranged buses from Kinglake to take our players, supporters and any other Kinglake residents interested in taking the 5 hour trip to Buchan where we will stay overnight and make the return trip on the Sunday.
Making this trip will not only raise funds for the Buchan Football Netball Club but will also give members of the Kinglake Football Netball Club and the wider Kinglake Community a chance to spend money with local businesses in the Buchan community.
Even greater than any financial support, it will also give those who had to endure the devastation of 2009 a chance to communicate person to person with those who are currently experiencing the same difficulties our community members have had to work through and overcome during the past 11 years.
To make this trip a success and to maximise the result to the Buchan Football Netball Club and the Buchan community we are looking for assistance/support in the following areas,
Food Supplies
Drink Supplies
Transporting guests & supplies
Raffle prizes/Auction items
Entertainment /Activities
Umpires for the Netball & Football Game
Footballs & Netballs for the days game plus extras to be donated to the Buchan club for the season ahead
