In the Premier Division, Mt Evelyn had a heartbreaking loss to Vermont, losing by the smallest of margins.
After being 11 points down at the main break, Mt Evelyn were able to keep Vermont scoreless in the third term and bring the margin back to two points. Despite keeping Vermont scoreless again in the final term, Mt Evelyn were only able to score a solitary point to fall agonisingly short of a come from behind victory.
Isobel Urquhart and Rebecca Theakstone were Mt Evelyn’s two goal kickers.
This result leaves the ladder in a very interesting position.
There’s only one game separating 4th and 6th and depending on results even 3rd placed Blackburn aren’t 100% safe. For Mt Evelyn, all they need to do is keep winning, and they have a favourable run home, against 5th placed Donvale and 7th placed Bayswater.
In Division One, Upwey Tecoma continued their good run of recent form, defeating the Waverley Blues.
The margin could have been even more than the end margin of 32 points, but the Tigers were very inaccurate in front of goal.
Corinna White kicked two goals for the Tigers, while Madison Walsh and Samantha Searle kicked one each.
In Outer East Division, there were only two games scheduled as Healesville played Thornton – Eildon the previous weekend.
Monbulk scored a narrow victory over Yarra Junction. The Eagles were actually able to keep Monbulk scoreless in the first term to take a 13 point lead into quarter time, but went scoreless in the second term and Monbulk took the lead going into half time. They were able to maintain that lead in the second half and took a seven point win.
Emma Horne kicked three goals for the victors, while Maddison Dodd kicked one.
Finally, in a result that is only going to hurt their already small finals chances, Upwey Tecoma had to forfeit to Belgrave. If they don’t beat Healesville next weekend and Thornton – Eildon and Belgrave win, their finals hopes are gone.
