After only winning one game for the entire 2018 season, Thornton – Eildon are on track for improvement in 2019.
Things seemed to continue where they left off at the end of last season, as they suffered a heavy loss in round 1 to Healesville. They also lost in round 2 to Monbulk before finally getting a win on the board in round 3 against Upwey Tecoma. Round 4 saw them back on the losers list, but it was their smallest loss of the season to date.
Rounds 5 and 6 were both heavy losses, to Monbulk and Yarra Junction respectively. Round 7 was arguably their worst match of the season, losing to Healesville by 97 points and not even registering a point to their name. Their round 8 match against Upwey Tecoma was not able to go ahead as scheduled, so this will be played later in the season.
Currently they sit at the foot of the Outer East Division ladder, but not all is lost. They are only a game behind 4th placed Belgrave and they have a game in hand after the round 8 match did not go ahead. They will have to improve their percentage though if they want to make finals as it is currently the worst in the division.
Although this once again has not been a great season for Thornton – Eildon, there are still some positives that can be taken out of the season to date.
For one, they have only had one game so far this season where they have gone scoreless, whereas last season’s tally was three games.
They are also scoring more than they were last season. Most of their scores last season were single figures, whereas this year most of their score are double figures.
Goals have still been hard to come by for Thornton – Eildon this season, but Yolanda Vinycomb still sits at the top of the Thornton – Eildon goalkicking tally. She has three goals to her name for the season, and the honour for highest individual game tally also goes to her, with her two goals against Monbulk in round 2.
Looking ahead, here’s how the rest of the season looks:
