Men’s Football
2023 presents as an opportunity for Berwick Springs to launch a flag assault.
They finished third last year thanks to an 11-1-6 record in a season that saw them tie with Premiers Gembrook Cockatoo in Round 7 and flog Runners Up Seville in Round 16 by seven goals.
Round 13 saw them annihalate Belgrave 175-21.
Berwick were reasonably strong defensively, conceding 70 points a game, while they managed to score 85 points per game of their own.
This was helped by Thomas Nelson booting 47 goals, with Corey Green kicking 29 from just 14 games. Matthew Collett and Blake Simondson chimed in with 25 and 20 goals respectively.
Daniel Ousley, Jayden Malek, Nick Rattle and Riley Hillman also had strong seasons in 2023.
Berwick Springs led Division 1 for kicks, marks and intercept marks last year, however there scoring efficiency was down at 48.9%; something they’d be wishing to improve upon.
Gembrook Cockatoo were promoted to Premier Division, following the flag, even strengthening the reality that Berwick Springs are one of the ‘teams to beat’ in 2023.
Netball
Berwick Springs will be excited at the prospect of winning a few more games in 2023.
2022 saw them finish last with just the four wins, however they were only a win behind 5th place, they beat 5th place twice and they finished the season positively; also winning in Round 21 by five goals against Gembrook Cockatoo.
Jess Hoskin was a star and beacon of consistency, shooting 255 goals, including eleven 15+ goal outings, with Charlie Brocks slotting 172 goals, with Chloe Maas adding 114 (rotating between WA and GA).
Laura Walker also had an outstanding season as Goal Keeper and Jesse Hare was brilliant in the Centre.
Berwick Springs will hope to tighten their team defence in 2023, as they leaked 47 goals per game, scoring just the 29 per game.
Given their late season form and improvement across the season, 2023 looms as an opportunity to climb a few rungs on the ladder.
