MEDIA RELEASE – Wednesday 2 June 2021
Following the State Government’s announcement that the Greater Melbourne area of Victoria will remain in lockdown for a further seven days, all AFL Outer East fixtures scheduled this weekend have been cancelled.
With travel restrictions in place from Melbourne to regional Victoria, no games can proceed under current restrictions.
All club activity which includes training, Auskick centres, events/functions, school programs and all AFL Outer East governed football and netball matches will continue to be suspended during this time.
With this weekend’s scheduled matches not taking place, and next weekend being the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, our aim is to return to all competitions as soon as possible. The weekend of June 19th is our target return date.
The Queen’s Birthday Fixture, Alexandra vs Kinglake will return to its original Round 11 fixture.
We are awaiting further information on Junior Interleague, scheduled during the Queen’s birthday weekend and will provide more information to clubs and participants as soon as it becomes available.
AFL Outer East will meet with all clubs next week and implement a return to play policy for the remainder of 2021. Our priority remains to play as much football and netball as possible and we will work with clubs in ensuring this occurs.
Further announcements regarding a return to football and netball will be made next week, following club meetings and further advice from AFL Victoria, Netball Victoria and government.
