Pakenham FC – 2021 Season in Review

Pakenham Football Club had a great season in 2021, with all four of its sides putting in superb efforts to show they have what it takes to compete with the best.

The seniors finished in fourth on the ladder with four wins from seven games, with James Harrison, Liam Tyrrell, Zac and Jordan Stewart being the standout players.

Club president Travis Hamilton was pleased with the progress of the seniors through the short season and believed the Lions were one of the teams to beat.

“We were looking very competitive on field,” he said.

“We dropped a couple of games to the top sides by small margins, but it showed we have what it takes to compete, and we were very happy with our progress.

“I think we were one of the teams to beat had we been able to play finals.”

The highlight of the season was the growth of the U19’s team from Toomuc Reserve, who finished second with six wins.

With many of these young players coming across from the juniors, the senior club shares a great relationship with the junior club where a senior development program is hosted by senior players.

From a holistic view, this is a fantastic outcome because the Lions consistently have a pool of great talent progressing through to its seniors that creates a great brand for Pakenham.

“A lot of our U19’s got the chance to step into the seniors at times and it was great to see how well they were going, so for the future of our club, it was great,” Hamilton said.

“We were very happy with the U19’s this year, they are a great group of guys and we have a lot to work with there leading into the future.”

The women’s football side put in a good performance, winning four games to feature in finals in its first year running with Outer East.

With several new players joining this season, some of whom had never played football before, the team were competitive which Hamilton was pleased about.

“They are a great bunch of girls and for them to make finals and be so competitive was outstanding,” he said.

With the season going through disruptive periods and particularly after the cancelation of 2020, the volunteer and committee group at Pakenham stood strong as they continued to turn up every week to represent and assist the club in the best way possible.

For this, Hamilton is appreciative to volunteers and the committee group for their efforts in 2021.

I would personally like to thank the Pakenham Football Club committee and volunteers for staying strong over the last two years,” he appreciated.

“Everyone bonded throughout the club this year and kept their chin up.

“The close nature of our club was keeping the community spirit going and I look forward to moving into the future with it all.”
